From the very first phone call, to the final walk through, You’ll know that renew renovations really does care.
Here's Our Proven 9-Step Process...
A Step-By-Step Snapshot Of Exactly What To Expect From Renew
A "whole of project" approach is crucial. At Renew renovations, we’ve developed and implemented a detailed Design/Build/Manage process that we follow for nearly all of our renovation projects that virtually eliminates oversights and mistakes and helps ensure that we leave no stone unturned. FROM CONCEPT TO COMPLETION.
The 9-step process below is for renovation projects that require some level of design and multiple trades. We’ll follow modified versions of this process for less complex jobs. Give us a call and we’ll be happy to consult with
you about the particulars of your home renovation or extension project.
Step 1
Conversation for Possibilities
The first step in the process is for me to understand exactly what you want to achieve in your home (including the reasons for your renovation). Renew has a thorough and professional alignment/briefing process that we take all customers through. This starts with a short questionnaire send to you via email, followed by a phone conversation.
Our approach is to listen carefully to your requirements, and to ask questions to ensure we understand exactly what you are looking for, what is important to you and why.
You’ll get a feel for who we are and how we conduct ourselves.
We’ll get a feel for your project and if it’s a good fit for our company.
If both parties feel like there’s a match, we’ll schedule a face-to-face on site meeting.
Step 2
Complimentary Consultation
Our first meeting is complimentary, and it helps us understand the characteristics of your space. In home consultations are only conducted after the questionnaire and phone conversation has been done.
We meet at your home to determine your specific needs and evaluate your project’s feasibility.
We’ll listen to your wants and needs and share our professional advice, ideas & suggestions.
We’ll discuss your anticipated budget or comfort range and compare it to what you’re trying to accomplish
If possible, we’ll provide a “broad range ballpark estimate” or “recommended investment range” for your project, based on our experience to see if we’re on the same page. If you feel comfortable with us and with the “estimate” discussed and want to continue with us, you’ll sign a basic “Proposed Project Agreement”
You will make a small investment at this stage for preliminary design concept plans. This does not commit you to doing the project with us but is required for quoting purposes.
The proposed project agreement form simply confirms that you are serious about exploring this renovation and are willing to share in part of the costs to design it and/or work out all the details necessary for creating a clear set of specifications and a firm price for the work.
Step 3
Project Development
Drawings are developed based on the concept and your budget. A detailed project cost can now be produced based on the specifics of your project. It will take account of the structural, design and aesthetic decisions you have made. If required, the cost can be refined or brought down by making modifications to the design and or specification.
We’ll document existing conditions and take basic measurements as needed to prepare an estimate for you.
The builder, draftsman and interior designer will all work together to formulate a plan.
Good design and detailed planning now, WILL save considerably later on.
We will present our proposal to you in person, normally within 4 weeks.
Sure, we’d love to have your business. But only if we’re a good fit for you, and you for us. We abstain from sales pressure, you have opportunities to opt out before signing a contract, if you’re not completely comfortable.
Step 4
Design Development & Product Selection
One-Stop Shop. Instead of you chasing multiple trade’s people around and becoming your own Contractor, you’ll enjoy the peace of mind and convenience that comes from having one company handle your entire project. We can do ANYTHING—from simple projects like decks and patio’s... to kitchens, bathrooms, and home additions. We handle EVERYTHING for you every step of the way.
Review the project in more detail with you. We’ll have a more in-depth conversation with you about your project and specific design needs and constantly get your feedback.
Investigate building codes and restrictions as they relate to your project.
With your budget in mind we’ll start detailing your project following our Design/Build Process.
Provide and review sketches and various design options and begin material and product selection that’s tailored specifically to you.
Your project is tentatively placed in our production schedule.
Finalize your material and product selections; roofing, exterior trim, windows & doors, plumbing, electrical & lighting fixtures, wall & ceiling finishes, decking, cabinetry, appliances and benchtops, hardware, flooring & tiles, paints & stains, etc...
“Engineering” – If necessary and practical we’ll revise the design and/or selections to help meet your budgetary needs.
You decide if you want to move forward with the project or not – It’s completely up to you. If you decide to proceed with us, a 5% deposit is payable at this stage.
Step 5
Formal Specifications & Construction Documents
Prepare and sign the Formal Specifications and Agreement (the contract)
This document describes all the details of the project and will state the total investment amount as determined in the previous step along with an equitable progress-payment schedule.
Complete Final Construction Drawings, including Structural Engineering (if needed).
Revise the pricing if needed to reflect any changes due to Structural Engineering or compliance issues.
Hand over to our building team; making sure everything is in order to ensure they have everything they need to complete your project accurately and in a timely manner.
Step 6
Pre-Construction Planning and Preparation
To minimize delays, we create a complete production schedule for your project BEFORE any work begins.
Obtain Permits and approvals as needed via certifiers and local authorities.
Order special materials ahead of time to avoid unnecessary delays once work begins.
Assign your project to one of our lead construction managers that’s best suited for your project.
Review your project with our various trade specialists that will be involved in your project.
Once building approval is received, Schedule a start date for the work to begin.
No detail is too small; we plan for EVERYTHING... to ensure a smooth and stress-free reno experience.
Step 7
Construction Phase
We will be reliable, on target and on the ball.
Pre-Construction meeting to review your project:
Introduce you to your site supervisor (the person in charge of your project).
Review all the details of your project together.
Discuss the plan and work schedule.
Discuss WH&S, Skip-bin, port-a-loo and any special needs related to working in and around your home, family & pets.
Answer any questions and address any concerns you may have.
We simply follow our plan and complete the job according to the pre-determined specifications and schedule.
With few exceptions your supervisor will be on-site at all the main stages, and at least weekly.
Your project will be completed by talented, friendly tradesmen dedicated to producing top quality work.
We do what we say we’ll do... and if we ever mess up (hey, it happens!), we’ll let you know and propose a solution.
You will be constantly updated on our progress every step of the way; no unpleasant surprises at the end of the job.
Renovating, by nature is messy and disruptive. We understand that the process can be challenging... so we take care to make your project as stress free as possible. You’ll always know where we are in the project, what’s next, and what to expect.
Step 8
Final Walk-Through and Sign-Offs
Obtain Code of Compliance documentation.
Upon completion of your project, our production manager signs off that the job is complete and flawless. You will then be taken through a victory lap (a final walk-through); the project is not considered complete until you say it’s complete by giving us a high-five and signing our “Certificate of Completion & Acceptance”.
Step 9
Warranty and Follow Up
We guarantee structural work for a period of 6.5 years to ensure you have total peace of mind.
We ask that you give us any and all feedback, positive or negative. As industry leaders, we are always striving to improve and your input is vital to that process.
Congratulations, your renovation is complete!
Our entire process is focused on you and getting the job done well in order that your vision and dreams become a reality.
We look forward to helping you bring your ideas to life!
